We hadn’t heard of this Australian artist, but a visit to his house sounded interesting and it was on our way from the Blue Mountains to our next destination.
We arrived just in time for a guided tour of the artist’s painting and etching studios and of a room dedicated to The Magic Pudding, an apparently well-known children's’ book which has been made into a film.
We learnt much about his life and work and that he was a prolific painter, etcher, illustrator and novelist, amongst other things. We were then free to peruse his works in the main house and we could see why he created so much controversy in the early 1900s.
I wasn’t allowed to take pictures indoors but I was free to take pictures in the beautiful gardens, which give you some idea of the nature of his paintings.
