Lightning Ridge

We’re back on the road at last and we’ve crossed the Great Dividing Range, leaving the hot and humid coast for the extremely hot, dry and endlessly flat outback. Lightning Ridge is renowned for the rare and expensive black opal. We had a look at the displays and visited one of the mines and an open mining area.

We had some long distances to cover to reach Melbourne, but enjoyed the remote outback camping areas we found along the way.
