Today we went to the main town in the Blue Mountains, Katoomba. It made us appreciate Blackheath, where we are staying, all the more, as Katoomba is very touristy. However, if you come to the Blue Mountains, you have to see the three sisters. And if you want to see the three sisters you have to come to Katoomba.
There are various versions of an Aboriginal legend about the three sisters, but it has to be said, they are a remarkable rock formation.
You could say we did the three sisters very thoroughly. After taking shots with all the other tourists, we descended the 900 steps beside the rocks into the canyon. After a pleasant walk through the forest at the bottom we came to a railway to take us back to the top. It’s the steepest railway in the world and was originally used for mining operations early last century.
The walk back to Katoomba along the cliff top was spectacular.
Good to see that one never loses the urge to take a photo mounting an animal statue!
