We chose a trip out to the Whitsunday islands on the Derwent Hunter, a magnificent tall ship. It was very peaceful under sail and a great way to enjoy the islands.
Our first stop was at Langford reef where we spent an hour or so snorkelling. We then made the short hop over to Black Island for some more snorkelling and beach walking.
We were able to see some coral and fish, but compared to the Red Sea of Jeddah it was disappointing. Much of the coral was dead and the colours somewhat muted. I’m hoping that when I get onto a diving trip to the outer Barrier Reef that there will be more to see.
However It was an enjoyable trip and great fun to be on a tall ship.
