OK, this is not a joke, it’s for real. We visited a different country today. We had to report to the government offices to obtain our entry and exit visas and get our passports stamped and exchange currency. We bought post cards and Hutt River stamps and posted them from the post office in the principality.
Formalities completed, Prince Leonard himself showed us round the main buildings in the town and explained the history of the principality's secession from Australia in 1970. The story revolves around miserly wheat quotas the Australian government were trying to impose on Leonard’s farm. After a declaration of war, during which no shots were fired, Hutt River became separated from Australia. Prince Leonard could then grow and export as much wheat as he wanted!
In addition to running his province, Prince Leonard has written a number of scientific papers which seem to relate principles of physics to spirituality. He was trying to explain how he determined the velocity of gravity. Something I’ll need to investigate further as I wasn’t aware that gravity had a velocity – something to do with photons apparently.
