The extremes of climate here in the Top End are extraordinary. During the Wet, the rainwater streams off the Arnhem plateau onto the floodplains, submerging them for half the year. In the Dry, the water drains away and evaporates leaving a few billabongs and pools. The resulting wetlands are teeming with life. We spent a couple of days at various sites including bird hides and the very informative Windows on the Wetlands.
